Dear Friends
As many of you know, the Friends of Grangewood Park organise the ‘Picnic in the Park’ every summer, a great free event for the whole community.   Likely date is Sunday  12th July.
This year we are desperately in need of volunteers to help organise and run the event.
So if you have a few spare hours to help out over the next few months we would love to hear from you…enthusiasm is essential, but we can put to use any skills and time you have!
We are also planning an AGM in May (date tbc) when we will be inviting people to join the committee – we are looking for a new Secretary as well as general committee members.

Volunteers still needed for Picnic, Sunday 21 July –

Posted on

Dear Friends of Grangewood Park

Thank you for the kind offers of help for this Sunday’s Picnic in the Park. If you have volunteered a schedule will be coming round in the next day.

We still need more volunteers, even if just for an hour – especially to help steward (mainly directing people and giving out flyers), running the tea stall and lucky dip, and helping to set up. We need one or two more first aiders too.

We also need talented bakers – any cakes, large or small would be great as the tea stall helps to generate the funds to cover the costs of running the event.

The list of activities continues to grow:
Kids: Little Supernovas drama, Boogiemites, Mini Magic, Art, Scouts, Kickstars, Tennis 4 Kids, Story-telling, Drumming, Bug Hunts, Face-painting and more
Adults: Bowling, Yoga, T’ai Chi, Dog show, Croydon Transition Town stall, Croydon Voluntary Action stall

Don’t forget your Picnic (we will have a tea stall and ice cream van) and friends, family or neighbours.

We hope to see some of you on Sunday. Thanks for our continued support.

Grangewood Park Big Lunch: Picnic in the Park

Posted on

Grangewood Park was abuzz on 19 July as over 200 people gathered for the Big Lunch event, Picnic in the Park, organised by the Friends of Grangewood Park.

Everyone enjoyed the day, enhanced by the sunny weather and community spirit, with many joining the group, providing feedback and recommendations about how the park could be improved.

The event showed off the park and its facilities to great effect, with over 14 free activities for all ages taking place throughout the day in various parts of the park. History and Nature walks explored the whole park; the sports facilities were utilised by Little Kickers, basketball and tennis coaches and even the trees were used by slackliners. The walled cultural gardens provided a wonderful backdrop to face painting, drumming workshops and arts activities, and the grassy area next to the children’s playground was bustling with children enjoying storytelling, Monkey Music and Boogie Mites. Even the dogs were catered for with a dog groomer and dog show in the meadow, with certificates going to six winners in various categories, including Best Young Handler and Best Six Legs!

And of course there was the food – everyone brought a picnic to share and enjoy with friends, family and neighbours.

A big thank you to Meike Weiser, Community Partnership Officer at Croydon Council, and all our members who contributed their time, contacts and cake to make our first event such a success!
